How to Sign a Vehicle Title in Montana: Step-by-Step Guide

Before proceeding, it's advisable to carefully read these instructions, locate all the relevant sections on the title, and review any provided guidelines. Note that Montana titles require notarization, which can be completed at any County Treasurer's office or the office of a notary public. Do not complete the title until you are at the designated office, and remember to bring photo identification with you. Failure to do so may result in the notary being unable to notarize your signature.

Locate the following information on the front of your Montana title, listed in a column on the right side:

1. On the line labeled "Print name(s) of purchaser(s)," print the name of the person purchasing the vehicle. If two people are purchasing it, both of their names should be included on that line.

2. On the subsequent line, provide the buyer's full address.

3. Below that, write the vehicle's current odometer reading on the designated line, followed by the date of the odometer reading on the next line.

4. The seller should sign their name on the next blank line. If selling on behalf of a business, the name of the business can be printed next to their signature.

5. Subsequently, the seller should print their name.

6. Below these lines, there is another set of lines where a second owner (if applicable) can sign and print their name.
