How to Sign a Vehicle Title in Kentucky: Step-by-Step Guide
Before proceeding to fill out any information, it's essential to carefully read these instructions, locate all the relevant lines on the title, and follow any specific guidelines mentioned on the title itself.
Signing a Vehicle Title in Kentucky:
Kentucky titles were reformatted in 2000. As a result, where you sign the title depends on the age of your title. These instructions assume the title was printed after 2000. If you have an older title, please refer to this website.
Additionally, note that all signatures on Kentucky titles must be notarized. This can be done at a county clerk's office or anywhere else a notary is available. Ensure you have photo identification with you when visiting the office.
Steps:
1. Turn to the back of your Kentucky title and look at the top.
2. Print the name and full address of the person purchasing the car on the first line under the words "Transfer of title by owner."
3. In the shaded box under that, write in the car's current mileage.
4. On the next line, where it says "Transferor(s) Dealer/Agent Signature(s)," the current owner should sign their name. Next to that, where it says "Transferee(s) Dealer/Agent Signature(s)," the person purchasing the car should sign their name. Note that if the car is owned by two people, or two people are buying it, both people need to fit their signature on the provided line, so leave plenty of space.
5. On the next line, the seller(s) should print their name(s). Next to that, the buyer(s) should print their name(s).
6. Where the title says "Date of transfer," the seller should print the date the car was sold.
